The city of Milan is known as Milano in Italian.
Why does football club AC Milan use the English spelling?
Why isn’t it AC Milano?
Because it was founded by two Englishmen.
Yes it was.
Because the club was founded by English expats Herbert Kilpin and Alfred Edwards as the Milan Cricket and Football Club.
I don’t think they play cricket anymore, but that’s correct.
Apparently the fascists forced them to change it in WWII but afterwards they changed it back to the original name.
